Internet literacy is an aid to economic development of low developed countries, LDC’s.
Definitions;
Aid is the activity of contributing to the fulfillment of a purpose.
Economic development refer to the bringing up of new technologies, transition from agriculture based to industry-based economy and general improvement in the standard of living. Also from a policy perspective economic development is an effort that seek to improve the economic well being and quality of life for a society by creating and growing incomes and tax base.
Low developed countries are countries that is considered lacking in term of it’s economy infrastructure and industrial base. The population of a lesser developed country often has a relatively low standards of living due to low incomes and high level of poverty.
Internet literacy had help to developed economy of low developed countries as follows;
. Internet literacy is an essential part of economic infrastructure , e.g electronic catalogs have a clear role in the communication between companies and their customers , video-conferencing and groupware application automatically change the way business are carried out.
.Internet literacy is highly efficient tool for transferring information , for example using email is cheaper than telephone calls , it’s leaves record and can be broadcast to many recipients in business sectors.
.Through Internet literacy , business and jobs has been created , economies have gained income , schools have acquired new pedagogical tools , NGO’s and pressure groups have exploited the technology to further agendas meeting the needs of the communities hence improving economic.
